Your calendar is preaching something. The question is...do you like what it's saying?

SPEAKER_01

All right, you ready?

SPEAKER_00

Born ready.

SPEAKER_01

Hey friends, welcome back to the Team Not Tired podcast. I'm Ashley. I'm Sharon Crawford. We're so glad that you're here with us today. We've got a brand new episode for you. We took just a little summer break, but we are back this fall and coming into what for most of us is somewhat of a busy season. Yeah. I know I'm already feeling it. So I bet you are too.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I think we are feeling it, but I think today's episode is going to be really fun because we're back to being busy, but we're not back to burnout. Let's hear it. We're not going backwards. Let's talk about this. You know, I think I need this today. Okay, conversation today. And full disclosure, I'm preaching to myself. Because I don't know about you, Ash. We had a great summer and whatnot, but when I was like, oh my gosh, it's it's it's already back this school. Like we gotta get ready, we gotta do the things, and we gotta like precondition the girls to like go back to bed at like an appropriate time, you know, because the rules are a little looser here at the Crawford House when summer hits, because we're all taking advantage. And I know that my house is not unique in that situation, but really getting back to like this concept of like, yeah, we're back to busy because our calendars start to immediately fill up, and and you know, we have the back to school night, and then they tell us all the fun projects and field trips and all the help that they need, and you're like, cool, while everything else is still going on, and it's one of those things where I I found myself, especially like last night, of like, I'm not going backwards, I'm back too busy for sure, and we just are in the season of of busyness, but we're literally practicing what we preach of like I'm not going to burn myself out, yeah. And I'm not going to fill up my calendar and my kids' calendar with all kinds of things because it's allowed and it's crazy, but I don't I'm not gonna burn out. Not I refuse.

SPEAKER_01

I think that's so I literally sent an email declining a speaking invitation yesterday. I'm so proud of it. Right. Oh my god, who is she? I know, and it was something that I really wanted to do, but I looked at my calendar for the fall, and I just knew if I say yes to this now, it's gonna stress me out later. Yeah, because I've already have all of these things. And whether you're a parent or not, fall is just a busy time. Like it's it's the church calendar ramps up, yeah. You know, work typically ramps up, a lot of company, you know, things like that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there's a seasonal shift that happens when anything new starts to happen. So it could be you're starting a new job, you're going off to college, you're in this new season, and there is a there's a seasonal shift that happens spiritually, I feel like, where you're just being prepared mentally, physically, spiritually. And like there is some pressure that kind of immediately follows of like, oh man, I got school, I got work, I got the church calendar. I now hope sports are coming up where like already it's like, can you sign me up for this, that, and the other? And I'm just like, girl, yeah. Like I don't, I I can't even make it out of my home office to to do some of the things, but those types of things start to immediately be presented, especially to us women, and our roles are really pivotal in this aspect of you know, like I mentioned, like preconditioning the kids to get like get to bed on time and get back to the routines. And and you know, like for for many women, we are the calendar keeper. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I was just gonna say.

SPEAKER_00

Right. And I know you have a beautiful calendar that you, you know, you we've talked about before, but it's like that that invisible load that we've talked about. It's about you know, brain dumping it onto a calendar, but I feel like this immediate shift of like, okay, we're back in this busy season and like finding the grace to run our race at a sustainable pace really does start at our our calendar.

SPEAKER_01

It does. And it requires it. I think the season just requires greater focus. It kind of calls us back to discipline. Yes, right. Like a lot of a lot of ladies I talk to, it's like summer's beautiful, and maybe you get to do more things, or you know, some some typical disciplines fall by the wayside. Yeah, but fall is almost like a like a second new year. That's a great like that's a great analogy of of people being like, okay, we're gonna get back, get back in routine, right? Get back in the swing of things, you know. And it just because it's full, it requires greater focus.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. And I it kind of brings me to the Holy Spirit is just working, okay, because the are we vibing? Uh we're always vibing. That's why we're friends. So, like in Psalms 90 verse 12, we all kind of know this, but to actually put this in application is crucial. And it says, Teach us to number our days that we may gain a love of wisdom. And so the key thought here for me, anyways, is like that wisdom of not just managing our time, but it's about stewarding our life as well. And even even like at prayer service of like God sent his only son Christ to die on a cross. And I hope that my life is worthy of that sacrifice. Yeah. And when I read that of like, teach us to number our days. I don't think about that when I'm mindless mindlessly scrolling. And you know, we this is not to condemn or shame, but it was one of those things that I was convicted of of like, God, I hope that my life is worthy of that sacrifice. But I think, like, specifically for women, like, and what our mission here is at Team Ti Team Not Tired, even though sometimes it feels like Team Tired, is like help us not to just be busy for busy sake, because busyness is not necessarily the enemy. We have to be mindful of there's gonna be busy seasons, and women are always gonna be on mission and we're always gonna carry things, but the problem isn't like necessarily the full calendar, it's about filling it with the things that God has asked you to do. What is your calling? What is your husband's calling? What is your kids' calling? Like, what is it on your family's life? And sometimes that means being the gatekeeper to your calendar. And sometimes disappointing the people that you love, disappointing your kids, and you know, I I don't mind saying no. It's actually one of my favorite words, but there's so many ways to say it that is in a kind way, and I know that we've talked about briefly before, but I think you know it's really having that wisdom of if this goes on my calendar, what am I saying no to? What am I saying yes to? And it's something that God is actually asking me to do, right?

SPEAKER_01

Because there's a difference in filling your calendar with things that you want, things that other people want from you, or things that God's asked you to do, or things that you feel called to do, things that bring you life. Like we we don't always get to, you know, everything we have to commit to doesn't always just bring us to life, you know. Correct. Doing laundry and absolutely the kitchen and mopping floors. It doesn't bring me life. No, but but it's still an act of spiritual worship because it's part of taking care of what he's entrusted to me. And so I I think about that a lot of just going, like, what do I need to say no to so that I will have room to say yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know. And I think it's one of those things, like you mentioned, of coming off of a season that's a little bit more relaxed and fun. And summer can do that for a lot of us. But I think like I would I would pose it like this do not rebuild what you just recovered from. And and like summer gives us like some freedoms, and now it's kind of those things of like, don't go back to things that drain you because you just got filled up a little bit. Like some of us are a little bit more restored. We have a summer glow, like we're we're vibing, and it was like that goes cold, and then we feel all these pressures, and it's like you can capture those thoughts and realize and recognize, like, oh, this is really draining me. And I don't have to go backwards, I can stop this cycle and I can move forward, and knowing that I can evaluate what is really making me tired. What is like creating this this pressure and this anxiety and and all of those things like to really evaluate I don't have to go backwards, I can move forward in a really healthy way. But being self-aware is like the key here. Because I often find by the time it's like October, I start to hear, and I don't know about you, like I'm just waiting for the year to be over. And it's like, oh, we haven't even like gotten into the holiday spirit. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it's and it's like a secular pattern. Like, did I say that word right? Secular?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Producer right Blake just said yes. So you're you're up on it.

SPEAKER_01

But it it is a secular pattern that you see, particularly in women, because we hear conversations all the time where it's like there are these times of years that tend to lean towards burnout and overproducing and overcommitting. Yep. And so I think we're, and I think it sounds like your heart is just really to encourage listeners today to go, don't go back to bad habits. Right. Like, don't repeat the cycle. If you know every fall you're ready to pull your hair out come October, let's get really real. Like, if you know by the holidays, you're starting to reach for that glass of wine a little more often because you need help with your anxiety, you're controlling your like there are patterns that we see in our life that come seasonally. And so, like, let's stop. Yeah, like let's get ahead of that and go, what bad habits do I need to leave behind? Right. And not carry those in or not go back to them when I get into a busy season. Right. Because we have a default setting.

SPEAKER_00

We go back to like this robotic way of living. And it's just like, oh, when this happens, I'll have a little bit more time. And and we don't really take the reins of our life and say, you know what? No, no, thank you. I actually am gonna block off my calendar because ultimately our calendar will preach what your priorities are. And to me, I'm like, ooh, that can kind of look really scary, or that can be really celebrating of just the freedom that it can bring you of blocking off, and I know we've talked about Sabbath or blocking off the time to like get outside, and those types of things are so so important. And so, like, just in a place of like closing this out, be busy without being buried. Don't don't bury yourself. Look at your calendar, don't repeat the cycles, and you can show up in a busy season that is all about surrendering to what God has for your calendar, for your peace of mind, and not getting to a place of like, like you mentioned, come October, they're like, Oh man, holidays are here. And then I have to like be in a depleted place, and then Thanksgiving comes, and I'm like, girl, I have my whole family coming over. We can't talk about these topics, you know, like you're already in a depleted aspect of life that you can't pour out. And then I find that Advent season so beautiful and so like amazing that I don't want to be in a place of burnout, I want to be in a place of anticipation and fun and and just giving God the glory of you know what, you made this beautiful sacrifice for me, and I'm going to be wise in numbering my days and stewarding it really well. And so before we go back to busy, let's not go back to burnout. Let's do ourselves a solid, let's end the year off with a celebratory. I've learned so much this year, even if it's one percent, I've still improved one percent because I'm building better rhythms of rest. I'm building better rhythms of grace and peace, and I refuse to be burnt out.

SPEAKER_01

I love it. I am and that's that's our hope for you as you listen today, that you would kind of put a stake in the ground before we really just get into this future fall season and get into the back half of the year is that you would put a stake in the ground. And if that means spending some time in prayer with the Lord, if that means sitting down with your journal and just evaluating what are your bad habits and tendencies that you need to cut off and be intentional about not going back to whatever that looks like for you, we just pray that the Lord would give you wisdom and discernment and peace so that you can get through a busy season without burning out. Yeah. For me and my team, we are not burning out. No burnout over here on Team, not tired. Friends, thanks for joining us. We think we appreciate you listening. We love hearing from you.
